![]() ![]() I must confess I had underestimated their intelligence due to their profession. ![]() "Indeed, they were skilled and their suggestions were relevant. "Those were the best courtesans in Raging Waterfall Gorge. The character explained it himself after the brothel incident. Higher levels of power may have been unleashed while splattering Zang Li, but in that instance Tianlan was mainlining a bunch of her old energy that she had found under the Dueling Peaks arena. More curiously, her Qi had peaked at the Earth Realm, a wave of cleansing gold and medicine. The Demonic Qi, something that would have to be carefully ground down over months or, more probably, years… had been removed in moments. "Rou… what kind of place is this, you crazy boy?" Shen Yu wondered. She had been clearly thinking about what she could do differently the next time. Shen Yu stared at the door, as Rou's woman-no, as Hong Meiling left. However, Meiling (who natively isn't anywhere near there) also peaks at Earth while doing the removal of some demonic qui. Jin while fully calling upon Tianlan's power is still a question mark. Every inch of his power… his very soul, had been bound. He would be able to figure it out eventually, but it would require concentration he could not muster with his tumultuous emotions. But the spirit below… It was diffused and ever shifting. His power… the core of it, was at the high end of the Earth Realm. Or rather the Earth Spirit below them's might. Threads that allowed others to access his might…. The golden threads connected him to the land, and to his wife. There was what felt like a shuddering heartbeat. It's always gonna have some compromises and learning curve issues. So "it's hot" from a Beijing person, using Pinyin, is "hao re", which to an American might sound like "how ze" or "how je".īut in rural Hangzhou, it would sound like "mau nye". In my Hangzhou hometown dialect (which has very little influence on Pinyin compared to other more widespread dialects), the Pinyin letter R is often pronounced with the American-English phoneme "ny", as in "nyeh heh heh" or "nyan-cat". In other dialects it might be halfway between the Czech Ž and the American R. But that's not necessarily going to be a universal pronunciation. So what you get might be similar to that Czech Ž. What we get in Beware of Chicken is a professional English-speaking audiobook narrator doing an admirable job of presenting the standard, Beijing-approved Mandarin Chinese. So when the linguist who invented Pinyin made the language, it was with an awareness of those dialects as well, and R was considered a more broadly understandable way to romanize the sound. Second, bear in mind that China is huge - there are tons of dialects that have subtly different pronunciations of R, as it is pronounced in Chinese. That sound/mouth-shape, applied to the start of a word, doesn't exist in American English, so an American-English trained brain comes up with J or Z or Zh to try to make sense of it. The way you end on the r sounds more like the American sound of an r when you end a word like Tigger. First, it makes sense if you have a name like Ti Gu Er.
